Silly Baby

Danny would not eat the green beans I tried giving him at first, but he liked the sweet potatoes.

He liked licking them off his hands and then rubbing them on his head.

There is only one thing that can be done with a silly sweet potato covered baby...

In to the tub!

He liked splashing and playing with the water while getting cleaned off.

The floor was pretty soaked by the time he was done splashing.

All clean! You can see some of his teeth here; He has two on bottom and three on top with another one on top and one on bottom that are almost breaking through.

Happy baby. Clean baby. Happy mommy.

Its been a while since I wrote on my blog. Things are going good. Life is still very busy with family, work , and young women's taking up pretty much all my time. We are very blessed and I am grateful for that. Danny is still a little sweetie and has been pulling himself up and walking along the furniture for about a month, so it is only a matter of time before he actually starts walking. I guess when he starts walking that begins a whole new phase of life- the toddler phase. I have been enjoying the baby phase a lot and being a mom to our precious baby has been a wonderful experience. I kind of don't want him to grow up, but I do at the same time. Life is crazy. Life is good.

Life on Fast Forward

I don't know if I mentioned that I got a new calling in my ward a little over a month ago... Well I did. I am the Young Women President. It has been really fun. I was nervous at first that I would not be able to handle it, but it has been really great and I love the girls in our ward. I even went to girls camp for a few days shortly after I was put in as president. I'm still working at the doctors office and am very busy right now because our front desk receptionist is in Europe for the month and I am covering for her and trying to keep up on my stuff too. It is busy but it makes the work day go by quickly.

Jon has started classes again for this sememster and he is really liking them. He is taking a lot of education classes and it is confirming to him that he wants to be a teacher. We also got the scooter up and working again and he has taken it to class a few times. Because of his schedule he is still able to watch Danny a few days a week and I think he likes hanging out with our sweet little boy.

Danny is now 7 months old and is all over the place. He has his first tooth and another coming in on the bottom. He is a really fast crawler and loves standing up and climbing on everything. He also loves trying to find plastic bags and trying to chew on computer cables, so we have to keep a close eye on him.

We have used our Seven Peaks passes quite a bit this summer. Danny has really enjoyed playing in the water and he will probably like it even more next summer when he is a little older.

Life is good, but busy. We want to get our carpets cleaned because they are super nasty. The garden is pretty much done; my tomatoes never got very big but we got quite a few of them and they are very tasty.  I also want to try to transplant some of my garden plants (my pepper and cucumber) that didn't grow very well into pots and bring them inside for the winter, so we'll see if they can survive the winter inside.

Over the Labor day weekend we had a little Westover reunion with my parents and siblings at my parents cabin in Timberlakes. It was really fun we played a lot of games, I ate the best steak I have ever eaten, and on Monday we rented 2 wave runners at Deer Creek and spent a few hours zipping around the resevoir on those.

This weekend we are going to be hanging out with the Ware side of the family, so that will be fun.

Life is good. It is going quickly, but that is just the way it goes sometimes.

Life

We have started Danny on solid foods. Here are some pictures of him eating some squash.

On Saturday afternoon when I got back from girls camp we had a family nap on the living room floor. When I woke up I took this picture because I thought it was cute.

I picked the onions in my garden and I think they did pretty good. They weren't very big, but I have been using them and they are pretty good. When I was picking them I saw this massively-huge brown hairy spider and ran to grab the camera but when I got back out to the garden it was gone. I am now slightly freaked out that a giant spider is going to crawl up my leg and bite me when I'm in the garden.

Too cute

So, we decided to try out the Provo freedom festival baby contest and Danny WON FIRST!! I was sure he hadn't won anything when they announced third and second. Our boy is just too cute. I really think that what wins it for him is how happy and social he is. He loves people and will smile at anyone.

We decided to try feeding him with a spoon and it was totally hilarious. We mixed a little rice cereal in with some breast milk and so it was just really soupy. I don't know if he swallowed any of it, but he had a lot of fun. Also a note about the video- he is wearing a diaper. My mom was convinced for about half of the video that he was naked.

For Claire

We hung out with Kyle and Claire last night and Claire asked how long it was after we were married before I cried. It took me a while to think about when it was, but I think it was in our first apartment which would have been at least a month after we got married. You might think that thinking back about the first time I cried in our marriage would have been a negative thing, but it actually made me really grateful and brings me to my marriage advice.

1. Focus on the positive
2. Assume the best

When I thought about the answer to Claire's question I didn't automatically think "February 19th. Jon said this. Blah. Blah. Whatever." I do remember that Jon said something that was not meant to be hurtful, but I took it the wrong way and cried. I don't remember what he said and I'm glad I don't. I also remember standing in the hall with Jon being very sweet and holding me as I cried. Sometimes you just gotta cry it out and get it out of your system. Before I get upset about something that Jon has said I try to remember that he isn't ever going to do anything that will intentionally upset or hurt me. A lot of the time this works, but sometimes it doesn't. Try to always assume the best of your spouse and it will make things easier. Focus on the positive things in your relationship and remember those rather than the bad things. Also just because something makes you cry sometimes doesn't mean it is all bad. I cried the day we moved in to our new apartment because it was dirty and gross and I was very overwhelmed by the change, but I don't think of that every time I'm here. How you view something and what you choose to focus on can make a big difference.

That is not the most eloquent thing I have ever written and I could probably keep blabbing more random advice, but hopefully it articulates what I wanted to say. It is also early in the morning and I couldn't fall back to sleep after feeding Danny, so I'll just throw that disclaimer out there for if I said anything really weird or made crazy typos.

Summerfest Baby Contest

So it is official; Jon and I bred a winner. Ok, so he didn't win first place but he did win second in the 4-6 month age category. We entered Danny in the baby contest because like all parents we think our child is the most adorable thing in the whole world. He won over the judges with his cute smiles and charming personality. His picture that they took there was not his best work, but oh well.

On to his winnings. In his little 2nd place gift basket we got a stuffed puzzle animal, bubbles, doTerra oils, stuffed animal, Cascade golf gift certificate, Texas Roadhouse free appetizer, Allen's photo certificate, a ball, a book, and a Taco Amigo gift certificate. The estimated retail value of the basket is $101.75.

Here is Danny with his winnings.

Growing things

This week Jon and his mom cleaned up our front yard and flower beds. It looks really nice and we now have some cute little flowers and plants rather than yucky weeds.

Our vegetable garden is also doing really well. I harvested some of the spinach and lettuce to make a little salad that we are going to take to my parents to have with dinner tonight.

We did a little photo shoot with the cousins a week ago and here are some of the cute ones of Danny we took.

I thought that these ones were cute and funny too. You can notice Danny going from fine to really upset.

Conservation of Matter

Jon mentioned this morning how it was cool that I have been able to sustain Danny by breast feeding him. I thought about this and my nerdy scientific brain thought "oh my gosh all the weight he has gained and the waste he has excreted over the past 3 and a half months has all come out of me." This was a kind of strange realization because he has gained at least 5 lbs since birth and he poops and pees quite a bit and all of that should be equal to the milk that has been put into him. Bodies are weird and amazing all at the same time. That is my random thought of the day.

Me and some of my cousins are having a little book club because I decided I wanted to read more. This Friday we are meeting at my house to talk about The Help by Elizabeth Sockett. I am going to try to make some carmel cake like Minny makes in the book. My first practice attempt from last night didn't work out too well because I accidentally put too much salt in it. Oops. I think I'll try again tomorrow night and if that one doesn't work out then I'll see if I can put something together on Friday after work. The book was fantastic and I am really excited to talk about it with my cousins.

That was dumb

So I just did a super stupid thing. I was going to mow the lawn and the mower wasn't starting so I checked the gas and it looked a little low so I grabbed the gas can and pointed the nozzle into the tank then pressed the button to let the gas flow. This may not sound so stupid right now, but I did not mention that the gas can was warm and full of expanded gas fumes. When I pushed the button a gust of gas fumes went into the tank and blew a whole bunch of gas up into my face and all over me. I got gas in my eyes and ran inside to rinse them out. I don't think I caused any permanent damage and the gas smell hopefully should wash off easy. Dumb. Jon is now going to fill up the gas can and he is going to mow the lawn.

In more positive news, the garden is doing well and Danny is as cute as ever. I'll probably try to put up some more pictures soon.

Happy Mothers Day

This is my first mothers day as a mother. It has been pretty good so far. Jon made me some breakfast in bed and gave me a new lens for our camera. It is a cannon 50 mm lens and I love it! I did a little photo shoot with it to test it out. These are some of my favorites.

(Danny looks scared in this picture and it makes me want to laugh. He is so expressive.)

My garden is starting to grow and I am very excited. The onions are growing like crazy. The peas, spinach, and lettuce are starting the come up. And the tomatoes are doing excellent in the wall-of-waters; I think we will probably take them off soon because maybe it will finally stop snowing.

Also we are now in a new ward and it starts at 11:00 and that is so so so so so much better than 8:30.

Happy mothers day to my mother and mother-in-law. You guys did a wonderful job of raising Jonathan and I and you are both doing an excellent job as grandmas. I love you both.
